We all want healthy and beautiful skin, but very few really know how to deep cleanse their skin. Thanks to double cleansing, it perfectly prepares the skin for the following application of skincare products. It's not rocket science, we'll tell you how to do it!

Makeup removal and cleansing are considered the very foundation of a daily skincare routine. I don't think any one doubts that anymore. But the question is whether you are doing it correctly. Perfectly cleansed, and therefore healthy and happy skin is most effectively achieved in two main steps which make up the double cleansing method.

Home deep cleansing and its methods are essential for healthy and flawless looking skin.  If you don't clean your skin properly, it makes no difference what booster, cream or serum you apply afterwards. If your skin isn't perfectly clean, you're literally throwing money for these products out the window.

The First Step in Double Cleansing: Makeup Removal

First of all, you need to gently but thoroughly remove any makeup from your skin. FoundationSPF and perspiration are best removed with a makeup remover lotionoil or balm. Only an oil-based product will dissolve and remove all impurities from the skin.

You can also make face cleansing more enjoyable by using a sonic brush to apply your favourite makeup remover. "If you want to use a brush, then only a sonic one. It is better not to use spin-based brushes, which can cause skin irritation," agreed the experts we spoke to.

At the end of the first phase of your makeup removal, you can also use a soft, wet towel or a microfibre makeup removal glove to remove any residual impurities from your face. However, make sure that these tools are always perfectly clean and only intended for cleansing your face.

Essentials for Thorough Makeup Removal

The Second Step in Double Cleansing: Cleaning Your Face

After thoroughly removing all makeup, you can proceed to the actual cleaning. In this step, reach for a gel or foam cleanser to remove any residual impurities from the first phase of the makeup removal process and then finish the process by perfectly cleaning the skin.

In the second step, choose a product according to your skin type and what is currently bothering you about your skin. "You can opt for products that are designed for acne-prone skin, deep pore cleansing, pigmentation, hydration and the like. But always keep in mind that the most important goal is a healthy skin barrier, so be sure to select products that don't disrupt the skin's microbiome," says cosmetologist Anna Jones.

When it comes to ways to deep clean your acne-prone skin , you can finish your double cleanse with a spot treatment or cover them with a pimple patch. This will dry out the pimples more quickly and prevent them from spreading further. Alternatively, you can also use an acne cleansing mask that can be applied topically. Furthermore, it is better not to touch any acne on the skin. It's basically an infection that could spread across the face. It is therefore worth leaving acne to the hands of professionals.

Products the Second Step of Skin Cleansing

It is a good idea to finish your deep cleansing with a toner. A toner adjusts the pH of the skin and helps it absorb the active ingredients contained in the products you subsequently apply to the skin, such as a booster, serum, cream, mask, etc.

Gentle Exfoliation as a Nice Bonus

After thoroughly removing makeup and cleansing your skin, you can also treat your skin to gentle exfoliation. However, it is sufficient to perform a gentle face exfoliation once or twice a week, even once a fortnight for sensitive skin.

"Exfoliation with BHA and AHA acidsglycolic, mandelic or salicylic acid is popular. Conversely, you should avoid coarse-grained scrubs, which can cause micro-cracks in the skin and disrupt the skin barrier," warns cosmetologist Anna Jones.

After the occasional facial exfoliation, you can continue with your usual skin care steps - a booster, followed by a hydrating serum and a day cream or night cream. In your morning routine, it's important to finish with an SPF product

In the Morning, Just the Second Cleansing Step Is Enough

Just so you don't feel like you're spending your days cleaning your skin, we've got good news for you. Although cleansing your skin in the morning and evening is equally important, you can skip the entire first step of double cleansing, i.e. removing makeup, as part of your morning routine. In the morning, you only need to use mild, non-foaming products or plain water.

Deep Cleansing for Men

Men often mistakenly believe that deep cleansing at home does not apply to them. But the complete opposite is true! A simpler routine is adequate, but they should not completely abandon it.

Men just need to do the second step of double cleansing in the morning and evening, therefore just cleansing. Using a gel cleanser or a cleansing foam followed by a toner is ideal. Apply a small amount of hydrating toner into the palms of your hands and gently pat it onto your skin. After all, gentlemen are used to using cologne in the same way.
