With hair it’s always a tough undertaking. Everyone wants what they don’t have. But volume? Everyone wants volume and, luckily, everyone can have it. You just need to know how!

Fine hair is often genetic, but with the correct washing and blow-drying techniques, plus the use of carefully chosen volumising products, you can confine lifeless hair to the dustbin of history. How to increase your hair’s volume

How can you boost your hair’s volume?

1. Impeccable washing

Volume starts with washing. How you wash your hair and what you use to wash it correlate directly with how much volume you can achieve and how long it lasts. You definitely don’t want to weigh down hair that lacks volume with heavy products which cause it to wilt. You need a volumising shampoo and conditioner. For example, why not try the shampoo and conditioner from the Moroccanoil Volume range? Wash your hair twice to ensure no styling products, dirt or grease remain. Then apply conditioner, but only from your ears down to the ends. Your hair will then be lighter at the roots.

2. Add styling products

Squeeze any excess water out of your hair using a towel and apply a volumising hair product. You might enjoy the L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Volume Lift mousse, which you spray directly onto your roots. You could also try the TIGI Bed Head Small Talk reinforcing cream, which delivers volume to your hair whilst also protecting it against the heat of the hairdryer. Fine hair lacking volume will love these products!

3. Blow-dry. Always!

Now we move on to the blow-drying stage. How should you blow-dry your hair for volume? First, dry it using a BaByliss Veloce 6750DE dryer, targeting the roots against the direction of growth. Once your hair’s half-dried, divide it into sections. Next, reach for the Olivia Garden Expert Blowout Speed large round hairbrush and gradually blow-dry your hair. Always use a brush to lift properly at the roots. Blow-dry from above with a thin nozzle to lift and smooth your hair at the same time. For special occasions, you can wrap individually blow-dried strands round BrushArt Hair Foam hair rollers and leave to cool. The volume will last a really long time.

4. Final styling

For even greater hair volume you can lightly back-comb your hair at the roots and set it in place with a volumising hair powder or use a volumising hair spray. To add a finishing touch to your hairstyle, try the Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Volume Up spray, which delivers both volume and shape. Spray all of your hair from a little further away to give it a nice lift.

For hair lacking volume, you need

You can spray a dry hairspray into your palms, spread it over your hands and ‘scratch’ your hair with your palms. It provides perfect lift. If you want to keep your volume, avoid hair oils. Only apply these to your ends, definitely not your roots and lengths. They can quickly make your hair limp.

And that’s that! Even though it requires a bit of effort, voluminous hair need not be a distant dream. And before you start making hair magic of your own, take a look at our video!
