After winter, your hair and scalp tend to be tired and crave a proper dose of regeneration. Get a real spring boost with deep cleaning, hydration, gentle massages and even dietary changes. With a hair detox, you can repair any damage and deliver nutrients and hydration to your beautiful flowing locks.

Winter is a challenge for both your skin and hair. After this cold period, your hair often ends up damaged, brittle and weakened. And, on top of this, your scalp ends up clogged with product residues, natural oils and dead skin cells. With a hair detox, your skin can finally breathe and your scalp absorbs the caring products better. Your hair will be thicker and healthier and grow more easily from a scalp that’s free of impurities.

How to tell if your scalp needs a detox

  • your hair gets greasy very quickly
  • your head itches, your scalp is often irritated
  • your hair doesn’t grow much, it’s thinning
  • hair is weak, dry and brittle, it falls out a lot
  • you normally use a lot of styling products
  • you are having trouble with dandruff

How to perform a proper scalp cleanse

Wet your hair and apply a scalp scrub directly to the roots. Choose it according to your hair type and any scalp problems. Add water, lather, and massage it into the scalp with your fingers. Massage gently in circular motions using your fingers or a scalp massage brush. Massage stimulates the circulation, removes dead skin cells and rids the skin of styling product residues, so that your scalp can breathe more easily. Rinse thoroughly and use shampoo, conditioner and your other hair care products as usual.

TIP: Do a scalp scrub once a week if you have normal or oily hair, and once a month if you have fine hair.

Miracles for your scalp

TIP: You can also try products containing tea tree oil, mint or caffeine to detox your scalp

A complete cleanse

Is your scalp cleansed? Reach for a deep cleansing shampoo to cleanse and regenerate your hair. Ideally, go for a mild shampoo that does not irritate the scalp. On the other hand, try to limit the use of products containing silicones, parabens and sulphates.

Focus on hydrating your hair and replenishing the proteins that are so beneficial to hair: after a deep-cleansing shampoo, it’s time for a detoxifying conditioner and hair mask, ideally one containing argan oil. You can also try detoxifying hair masks, which restore the hair structure and work deeply, cleansing gently and removing impurities (dust, heavy metal residues and pollution).

Cleansing champions for hair detox

TIP: You can also rinse your hair from time to time using apple cider vinegar water, which has detoxifying effects.

Eat your way to beautiful hair

But cleansing your hair and scalp doesn’t stop in the bathroom: a balanced diet that includes vitamins and minerals also has a positive impact on hair health. So try to lighten up your spring diet – limit alcohol and caffeine consumption, let go of your reliance on sugar, fast food and fatty foods, and eat more fruit and veg instead. Take products that support a detox – reach for food supplements containing chlorella and spirulina, which help with your detox on the inside.

TIP: Treat yourself to a professional detox at a hair salon every so often.
