Are you glowing or just shiny? There’s a big difference! Learn how to apply highlighter properly and avoid the dreaded “greasy frying pan” effect. From your nose to your forehead – where the glow belongs, and where it really doesn’t. Check out my tips so that your face says “dewy goddess”, not “Help, I’m melting!”

Highlighter. My holy grail. My shimmering secret weapon. My face’s way of saying “I’m alive and thriving.” But watch out – there’s a fine line between looking like a subtly radiant fairy and a deep-fried doughnut after 12 hours on a bus. And today, I’ll show you how not to cross that line.

The first rule of highlight club: don’t slap it straight on your face, especially if you’re using a cream highlighter. I know it’s tempting to crack open those cute little tubes and dive right in, but trust me, you’ll end up with patchy bits, blotches, and a “this bit stuck, that bit didn’t” mess. Instead, dab a bit onto the back or palm of your hand, warm it up, then use a damp beauty sponge. Gently tap it onto your cheekbones, as if you’re trying to inconspicuously take your seat in the cinema after the film’s already started. Pop it on top of your blusher and under the outer corner of your eye. This is my secret combo for that fresh “Me? I woke up like this” look.

Highlighters that give you the glow

Next up: the nose. Honestly? For ages I thought highlighter on the nose was a relic from the 2016 YouTube tutorial era. But then I discovered that, used right – just a tiny dab where the light naturally hits the tip and the bridge – it looks divine. Less disco ball, more my nose just got back from a spa weekend.

And now a heads-up for the sleek bun squad! If you love a slicked-back bun and your forehead’s out on show, add a touch of highlighter just below the hairline. Just don’t put it dead centre unless you’re going for the “overheating wifi router” look. The same goes for the chin. Just no! Highlighter on the chin = that greasy effect. And nobody wants that.

And finally? The inner corners of your eyes. A little shimmer there and you look as though you’ve had eight hours of sleep, even if you were up till 3 am binge-watching that show about murderous nuns. It’s a win!

So, are you going to give this new way of using your highlighter a go? Just remember, not all that glitters is gold – but most of it can be highlighter. See for yourself in our video.
