Elbows or Neckline. What Are Some of the Other Places We Tend to Forget About?

While our face and hair may seem like pampered queens we carefully choose the right ingredients for and whose every wish we fulfil, we rarely get to some parts of the body in our beauty routines. Forget the “I’m sure they’ll be all right” approach and really take care of yourself from head to toe.

Neck and Décolletage

Are you trying to outsmart nature in every possible way and shave off the years (in appearance at least)? Then make sure your neck and décolletage don’t give you away. Wrinkles and sagging skin affect them too. And since the skin in these areas is thinner, finer and has fewer sebaceous glands compared to other parts of the body, it is less resistant to sunlight and other environmental factors.

This means that when you’re cleansing, moisturising and exfoliating your face, you need to extend the area of application downwards. And if you add something extra to this neck and décolletage care once in a while, such as a mask or a massage, you’ll see a pleasant change for the better.

Knees and Elbows

We know these are the driest parts of the body, but we kind of ignore them anyway! We find the largest layers of dead skin cells on the elbows and knees, so our first job is clear – say goodbye to them with a thorough body scrub, massaging and buffing the area for at least thirty seconds. Then add a generous amount of moisturising cream or lotion. And it certainly wouldn’t hurt to remember your elbows every time you apply hand cream

Get into intense hydration

Underarms

We wax and shave them, we apply a layer of deodorant or antiperspirant, and yet we still scrub them when we wash them. Our underarms don’t exactly have it easy. What can you do for them? Everyday cleansing goes without saying. Always use gel, warm water and sharp blades when shaving so that you can be as gentle as possible.

Once a week or so, remember to exfoliate your underarms (yes, dead skin cells and dirt accumulate here too) and reward your hard work with hydration. It doesn’t need to be done as often as other parts of the body – once or twice a week is enough.

Back

The fact that we can’t reach is no excuse. In addition to sweat and dead skin cells sticking to your back, it is often covered in hair product residue or dandruff too. So keep a long-handled brush or sponge in your shower and put your back at the forefront of attention the next time you wash. Amongst other things, this can help prevent acne from forming. And when it comes to hydration and nourishment, your back will thank you if you leave it in the skilful hands of massage therapists and their oils from time to time.

Treat your whole body to a scrub

Buttocks

Since you’re at your back, you may as well go even lower down. We all long for soft and firm skin on our bottom, but if we’re honest, we don’t do much about it. In addition to exercise, regular exfoliation can help, and you can also try dry brushing. Circular motions and being gentle are the keys to success. This gets the blood flowing and lets cellulite know you don’t want it around. You can also treat cellulite with special creams. Don't forget to apply a firming cream to your buttocks after every shower or bath.

Feet

If you don’t get a regular pedicure, try giving your feet a little wellness treat from time to time in the comfort of home. Soak your feet in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes. Add a scented oil to make the ritual even more enjoyable. Then take a pumice stone and start removing the dry and hardened skin. An electric heel and foot file can also make your work much easier. A foot scrub is also a great help and it smells good too. Finish the treatment by drying your feet carefully and applying a generous amount of moisturising foot cream.

Treat your feet

So, have you reached into your conscience like us and turned your attention to those parts of the body you used to neglect during your normal routine? Go for it, they’re worth it!
