Do you change one skin cream after another and it's still not right? Try going back to simplicity. I've been applying different shea butter products to my face for a few weeks and... Be surprised by the results in the review!

Why Try Shea Butter for Your Skin?

You've probably already heard lots about shea butter (it's been used in skincare for centuries), but just in case you haven't: it's the fat from the seeds of the African butter tree. It takes work to get it, but it's worth it. It is rich in fatty acids, including linoleic, oleic and palmitic acids, and vitamins (especially vitamin A and vitamin E) and has many great features. That's why it's called African gold:

  • intensively hydrates,
  • promotes cell regeneration,
  • reduces redness and irritation,
  • has antioxidant effects,
  • hydrolysed collagen combats signs of premature ageing,
  • it is non-comedogenic and carries only a very low risk of allergic reaction,
  • suitable for all skin types.

The Best Shea Butter for Your Skin: Reviews

Institut Karité Paris Rose Mademoiselle 98% Scented Shea Butter

What I liked best: Besides lipstick and tissues, my purse has a new permanent resident - shea butter called Institut Karité Paris Rose Mademoiselle 98% Scented Shea Butter. It manages to address the dryness around my nose, lips, and hands, replacing several products I used to carry with me.

Advantages: The practical size, thanks to which it fits virtually anywhere, is definitely a great bonus. Most shea butters are fragrance-free (and I have nothing against that), but this one has a subtle floral fragrance that I loved, along with the designer packaging. It spreads beautifully, is quickly absorbed, just everything as it should be.

Disadvantages: The only thing that would deter me from making another purchase is the price.

Dr. Feelgood BIO and RAW

What I liked best: At first, I found that Dr. Feelgood BIO and RAW seemed a little thicker than the others, and the application was a little stiff. I was concerned about how it would absorb into my skin. My concerns were unnecessary as it turned out. Maybe it was my really dry skin, but it was absorbed in one go, leaving no greasy film, just a nice soft feeling. And thumbs up for the bio and raw quality.

Advantages: The butter is cold-pressed so that all the beneficial substances remain in it. It is also free of any other additives and perfumes, so you get it ‘served’ in the purest possible form. And it comes out great value for money too.

Disadvantages: The butter has a slightly uncharacteristic fragrance, that I personally didn't mind, but which probably wouldn't suit everyone.

More Treasures with Shea Butter

Saloos BioKarité

What I liked best: Of all the butters, Saloos BioKarité was the most comfortable to work with. It has a slightly ‘sticky’ consistency that is easy to pick up and spread and there was no need to warm it up in my hands. It has become my favourite for nighttime, as it does a good job on my skin by morning. And not waking up with a tight face is a great feeling!

Advantages: Again, this is 100% bio quality shea butter, which is a definite plus. In addition, it comes in packaging suitable for travelling and that always comes in handy.

Disadvantages: The butter takes a little longer to be absorbed. If you want to put foundation over it in the morning, be prepared for that.

Soaphoria Organic Shea Butter To Go

What I liked best: Soaphoria Organic Shea Butter To Go passed the stress test of a scratched nose during a bad cold, and I thank it for that! Sure, maybe its competitors would have done similarly well, but it just made an impression on me.

Advantages: It has a really thick consistency, but you don't feel it on your skin. Again, I have to highlight the nice packaging with the “just right” size (translated: great for travel and everyday use on your face) and the bio and organic quality.

Disadvantages: I did not find any.

Tip: Shea butter is not only suitable for your face, but also for your whole body. Try it on hard heels, nail cuticles or stretch marks!

Bielenda Vegan Friendly Shea

What I liked best: If you're not looking for pure shea butter, but it's enough that the ingredient is in the formula, I have one “treat” for you at the end of the day, which is body butter called Bielenda Vegan Friendly Shea. It provided the perfect finish to my daily shea ritual, and you'll love its velvety-soft (but thick) consistency. The same velvety, soft touch will be felt all over your body after application.

Advantages: In addition to shea butter, it also contains olive oil, so its nourishing, hydrating and softening effects are top of the range. The butter has a great price and a fragrance that is unobtrusive, soft and warming. It is quickly absorbed and after applying it, you can slip under your duvet straight away.

Disadvantages: Just a small thing - it's quite easy to miss that it is body butter and not pure shea butter, so watch out for that.

The best shea butter has been discovered. And not just one! I finally got rid of my flaking skin and dryness from the winter. Do you want some? Then choose some of the butter from the reviews and apply thoroughly.
