Top Eyebrows
Tame unruly eyebrows, add volume, enhance colour - all this can be done with small but handy mascaras and brow gels. Even so, it pays off to improve the condition of your eyebrows every now and then. See a beautician for quick eyebrow styling, or try it at home. It's actually not rocket science.
- Determine the shape. All you need is a pencil, even a writing pencil. Place it perpendicular to the bridge of your nose - that's where your eyebrows should start. Then curve it diagonally across the centre of your eye - this should be the highest point of the arch. Finally, turn it to the outer corner of your eye - that's where your eyebrows should end. Mark the points with a concealer, for example.
- Get trimming. Brush your eyebrow hairs upwards with an eyebrow brush. For those that needlessly overhang the natural line, simply trim them with special eyebrow scissors.
- And now for the tweezers. By following the marked points, gradually get rid of the hairs that simply don't belong there. If it hurts too much, try stretching your skin with your fingers. And take the hairs out one at a time.
- Take care. When you're done, treat your eyebrows with a soothing gel (aloe vera is awesome) or a face toner. And then you can pat yourself on the back. You're done.
What you need for perfect eyebrows
Gel versus mascara. Are your eyebrows thick and dark enough? Then all you need is a transparent gel to set them. If your brows are light and you want to highlight them, reach for mascara in a shade that still looks natural on you.
Review: Top Brow Mascara
L’Oréal Paris Infaillible Brows
What I liked the most: The small and ideally shaped brush is totally awesome. I brushed, coloured and set my eyebrows beautifully with it, without getting the colour all over the place. The effect is amazing and lasts all day, unless you pull a tight sweater over your head like I did once. Watch out for that!
Advantages:for me the best thing is the quickness. It really only takes a few seconds and the result is a total success. I've even had friends ask me if I've been to the beautician for a lamination. I really enjoy that L’Oréal Paris Infaillible Brows gel strengthens and nourishes at the same time as it contains a keratin complex, hyaluronic acid as well as castor oil and vitamin B5. At first I used it in combination with an eyebrow pencil, but after a couple of weeks they really thickened up and I didn't need to touch up at all.
You can choose from four different shades. I have light brunette, which matches my hair colour perfectly. But there is also a transparent one in case you have dark enough eyebrows that you just want to define and nourish them. I would dare to say that this is the best mascara for my eyebrows.
Disadvantages: If I was going to be a big "nit-picker", then perhaps that the use of the black part wiped off all the writing. But I honestly don't care about that.
Rimmel Wonder'Full Brow
What I liked the most: It really highlights eyebrows a lot. For me, it's perfect for evening make-up. The brush has a spiral shape that adds fullness and density. The shaped eyebrows hold all day long. Application is easy and quick - two attributes I love about any make-up product!
Advantages: Rimmel Wonder'Full Brow mascara is waterproof. It's totally not for scuba diving, but if you get wet outside or get your face a little wet in the shower, the colour won't budge. So for make-up, go for oil-based products. And speaking of oils, this mascara doesn't have just any formula either. It contains extracts of 4 different oils– argan, maracuja, marula and camellia. In addition, it also contains biotin and keratin, so your eyebrows are really well taken care of.
It has 3 different shades – light, medium and dark. I tried medium gold, and like I said, it's perfect for evening make-up.
Disadvantages: I personally prefer a flat silicone brush.
MAYBELLINE NEW YORK Brow Fast Sculpt
What I liked the most: : It's the smallest of all the mascaras I've tried, which I appreciate. Every millimetre of space in my small handbags counts. The staying power of my shaped eyebrows is incredible. I set them in the morning and they still looked great in the evening.
Advantages: The spiral brush evenly coats hairs with colour that stays where it should. Plus, it has shorter bristles on one side (which I use to apply colour) and longer bristles on the other (which I use to comb and shape). After application, you have to wait a while for the colour to dry. So watch out for that. MAYBELLINE NEW YORK Brow Fast Sculpt gel brow mascara is available in 5 different shades in total, and there is also a colourless version. I liked the soft brown shade best.
Disadvantages: It does not contain any hair nourishing and strengthening ingredients.
Bourjois Oh Oui! Brow Fiber
What I liked the most: The miniature brush thoroughly combs and highlights even the finest hairs. The result is really precise! I also love the design, which is a bit different from previous products.
Advantages: After application, the eyebrows are firmly set but beautifully soft. This natural effect is really cool. Bourjois Oh Oui! Brow Fiber brow mascara has 3 shades. Again, I liked the middle one. I was surprised that according to the manufacturer, the colour is supposed to be applied against the direction of hair growth and then brushed into the desired shape. I tried it and the result was amazing. So the instructions are well worth reading.
Disadvantages: Again the absence of nourishing ingredients.

essence THICK & WOW
What I liked the most: This is such a nice companion for the price. It did its job just right. The result was very subtle and natural, so if you're not feeling up to ultra-striking eyebrows, definitely give it a try.
Advantages: essence THICK & WOW brow mascara indeed costs very little, but that definitely doesn't make it a "B" product. The eyebrows look great after application. They're thick, highlighted and set. They don't last all day, but you just need to "refresh" them a bit and that's it. There are four shades to choose from, whether you're blonde or brunette. I tried the caramel blonde, which was very subtle. For a casual daytime makeup look, it suited me just fine.
Disadvantages: The brush is too big, making it easy to draw outside the lines.
The bottom line is that all the products tested were superb. Hopefully you'll find your top brow mascara thanks to us too!
