How not to ruin your hair strands when detangling your hair, how to brush wet or tangled hair properly and which comb or brush to use to detangle your hair? Hairdresser Nela Matýsková offers her tricks and tried-and-tested techniques.

Just put of curiosity, how many combs and hairbrushes do you have at home? Do you make do with one for all your grooming, or could you open a hair salon? The right hair tools and products for your hair type are the alpha and omega of detangling. How do you go about it?

1. Combs for your hair type

Choose a brush and comb for easy detangling according to your hair type and the purpose it is intended to serve. Do you have wavy, short, long, extended hair, do you want volume or do you want to smooth the untamed strands? "For me, no household should lack a compact comb that even men will love," says hairdresser Nela Matýsková, who says the Tangle Teezer is unrivalled on the market and is a great help as a detangling brush both before and during hair washing.

2. The right brush for blow drying

According to our hairdresser, every brush should have soft and flexible bristles. "You should not be without a blow dry brush, whether round, square or flat," adds our hairdresser, advising you to invest in a good quality hair brush. Have it recommended by your hairdresser who knows your hair best. Professional brushes and a detangling comb make your job easier and last a really long time.

However, just using a Tangle Teezer or similar product is not enough. "For example, when blow-drying, always make sure the brush has gaps in it through which the air will flow," recommends our hairdresser. All Tangle Teezer brushes are made of a highly durable plastic, but blow drying with them is not recommended, as it could melt at high temperatures. Unless they are specifically designed for blow drying.

Do you have fine hair? Reach for a natural bristle brush. They are suitable even for children's hair, which is at first very delicate and needs gentle care. Try maybe a boar bristle one.

3. Brush your hair at the right time

How to brush your hair?  Most of us comb our hair in the morning, but it's just as important to comb it before washing and in the evening. "Brushing removes dirt from the hair, massages the scalp and distributessebum throughout the length of the hair, which is natural protection for the hair. But if you have wavy hair, comb it only before washing," informs Nela Matýsková. For sleep, she says it's ideal to braid your hair and use a satin elastic to keep it from breaking at night.

Wondering how to brush out your tangled hair? Most of the time they tend to tangle around our necks. Coat collars and scarves are to blame, and hair gets dry from rubbing against the back, perspiring or insufficient brushing. "Sometimes tangling is also caused by not using the right products or even no products at all, so your hair will tangle all the time," explains our hairdresser.

In this case, use a hair detangling spray regularly, again suitable for your hair type, which will both soften and nourish the strands. Having your hair tangled after washing will avoid you like the plague. If your kids are also worried about tangled hair, there are also hair detangling sprays for children. And there will be a little less shouting at home, at least when brushing their hair.

TIP: How to brush out extremely tangled hair?

Apply a small amount of conditioner to your hair and very gently brush from the ends strand by strand.

4. Use your fingers to comb through a mask

After applying the mask or conditioner, run your fingers through your hair until it loosens before reaching for the brush. "Pay attention to the way you detangle your hair, always working from the ends to the roots, i.e. from the bottom of the hair upwards. Wet hair is very fragile and canbreak easily," explains our hairdresser. It is therefore advisable to use a comb to detangle wet hair. It usually has thinner spacing between the teeth or bristles.

5. Use the right products to detangle your hair

Always have the essential trio at home - shampoo, conditioner and mask. "In addition, get heat protection or rinse-free sprays that can be used on dry or wet hair before detangling. Your hair will loosen and it will be much easier. Again, start from the ends and work your way to the roots," informs Nela Matýsková.

TIP: Do you know how to clean brushes and combs?

You can put plastic combs in the dishwasher or washing machine, but pay attention to the temperature and durability of your them, and don't forget to turn off the spin cycle. You can also soak the comb in warm water, let it soak for a while and then manually remove the dirt. There are also special products on the market for cleaning your combs and brushes.

With our tips, you can finally say goodbye to tangled hair and enjoy the beautiful days with a flowing, soft mane.
