There’s nothing bad about dividing perfumes into daytime and nighttime categories, but that just doesn’t allow us to explore their full potential. Various compositions can help boost our energy and confidence, calm us down, or even help us concentrate. Do you know which ingredients are the best fit for work meetings, relaxing afternoons, or parties?

A Little Bit of Science

Do you wear perfume to impress other people? Maybe it’s time to change your approach and start wearing what smells good to you. According to one study, 75% of the emotions we feel during the day are influenced by our sense of smell. Scents have such a huge impact on us because our sense of smell is closely linked to the limbic system, the emotional centre of the brain. Unlike other sensory perceptions, scents are “sent” directly to the brain, meaning they are able to evoke more intense emotions.

A Citrus Pick-me-up

If everything takes you twice as long in the morning and you can’t even rely on caffeine to fix it, try the perfume route. There are ingredients you can look for to give you enough energy for the entire morning (at least) and give you a refreshing boost. Our tip? Citrus all the way! Tangerine, lime and bergamot are like sunshine in a bottle and will boost your mood instantly. And did you know that a citrus fragrance will make you seem younger to those around you?

Kick-start your day with these perfumes

If citrus isn’t your cup of tea, you can always count on the power of herbs to make your morning. Basil, rosemary, mint and eucalyptus can also create a fresh, clean and revitalising effect. And you can also reach for a perfume with these ingredients when your eyes start feeling heavy at work after lunch.

A Day in the Office

If you’re spending the day ahead behind a desk beside other colleagues, keep them in mind when choosing a perfume. Save the heavier spicy and leather scents or polarising ingredients for other occasions and go for subtle and light floral, citrus or green scents. Choices like these will bring a fresh and pleasant mood into the office without being obtrusive.

Do you have an important meeting coming up? Then you need a fragrance that will lend you a confident aura. That’s what woody fragrances with sandalwood or cedarwood can do. They also bring a sense of stability and composure, which comes in handy in tense situations.

Afternoon Chill

As soon as you shut the office door behind you, you need to relax and switch off. A soothing perfume with vanilla will help you leave stress behind without being too overpowering or making you sleepy. If you’ve had a particularly strenuous day, reach for a lavender perfume or one with chamomile. You’ll easily forget that work even exists.

An Evening for Two

Do your evening plans include a romantic dinner? Then you can use your choice of perfume to help it end according to your (secret) wishes. As clichéd as it may sound, a floral fragrance would be your best bet in this situation. And all the better if it’s formulated with the most romantic flower of all – rose. Aside from its captivating fragrance, it also secretes the hormone phenylethylamine, also known as the “chemical of love”

Or you can go with another safe bet – an exotic, sensual and aphrodisiac jasmine perfume. Are floral scents not your thing? You don’t have to give up on romance, just try a perfume with warm cocoa or notes of seductive leather.

Best Evening Perfume

An Endless Party

Saturday night, a crowded club, and bodies swaying to the music – this calls for a perfume that will stand out from the rest. You don’t have to be afraid to reach for bold and long-lasting fragrances when going out. Charm everyone around you with an oriental perfume. Cinnamon, cardamom or ginger will tickle their noses with spiciness and energy. The sensual notes of ylang ylang, patchouli, or the seductive and animalic accords of amber and musk will also work wonders.

What should you take away from this? You don’t have to apply five different perfumes during the day. Just try to think about how each ingredient can help you stand out in everyday situations when making your choice. Are you going to try this new strategy with us?
