The sun is shining, temperatures are rising, and the will to stick to your skincare routine melts away amidst an influx of colourful drinks and summer parties. If you’re anything like me, I’ve got a summer skincare routine to leave you feeling refreshed, hydrated and glowing.

This summer, take a break from skincare ingredients such as retinolglycolic acid or lactic acid. Your skin is already completely exhausted as a result of the sweat, sun, sea water and sand. Treated with these active ingredients, it can easily become irritated and, what’s more, its protective barrier can be weakened. And you don’t want that. Opt instead for moisturising and soothing products containing hyaluronic acidniacinamidealoe vera or centella asiatica. What is my lighter summer skincare routine like?

Cleanse Your Skin Thoroughly

Clean skin is the basis for everything. And that’s even more the case in the summer. Even the most stubborn of naysayers will occasionally use an SPF cream, but then they get mad about getting spots. Most of the time, though, it’s not the cream. It’s the lack of facial cleansing. You see, sunscreens are made to last. Sweat, water, rubbing. So if you don’t wash them off properly, they’re going to clog your pores. So use a good-quality makeup remover, ideally a refreshing gel, such as the Beauty Of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser, which removes makeup thoroughly, cleanses your skin and leaves it feeling divinely fresh.

Protect Yourself From the Sun

UV-protected skin is essential for eternal youth, which is why you should always use SPF 50 on your face and décolletage. It slows down skin ageing and stops hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. You can use an SPF 30 on your body, but make sure it’s a high SPF on your face. For instance, try the lightweight Frudia Sun Ultra UV Shield, which provides protection against both UVA and UVB rays and you won’t feel it on your skin at all. So don’t forget about it in the morning!

And the Rest is Hydration

Cram in as many layers of moisturising products as possible between the makeup remover and protection phases. Serumsmoisturiserstoners or face mists. Leave a hydrating spray (I love the Clinique Moisture Surge™ Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief, for instance) in the fridge at home and have one at work and one in your handbag – and use it whenever you feel the need. It will refresh you, wake you up and hydrate you.

So what is my quick summer routine like? After cleansing my skin, I apply the Arval Aquapure serum to damp skin on my face, I spray it with a moisturising spray and follow up with Bioderma Hydrabio Gel-Crème. In the evening I go straight to bed, and then add an SPF to this in the morning.
